The factory was founded with 1916 as Avtomobilnoe Moskovskoe Obshchestvo (AMO, Russian Автомобильное Московское Общество (АМО)-Moscow Vehicle Society). The plans were to make Fiat F-15 1. 5 tonne trucks under licence. The Zil-111 was a limousine manufactured by the Soviet car maker ZiL in 1958-1967. It was the first post-war limousine designed from the Soviet Union.
